Prapheni Heet Sibsong: The Tradition Of Merit-Making With Ethical Commitment To The ‘Other’
Associate Professor, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
This paper is about the version of monthly merit-making ceremonies found throughout northeastern Thailand. The paper discusses the nuances of each monthly communal activity, which also serves as cohesion for improving the Buddhist communities. These rituals or ceremonies are also found in other ASEAN nations, and have their own ethnic variances. From this paper, we can see how Buddhism is put into action at the village level. Often conference papers deal with personal-level matters or macro-scale generalizations. This paper is an important observation to see how Buddhism is operative, in the intermediate sense.
